Robert May’s School students excelled at this years Areté Music competition hosted by Woking High School on Thursday 22nd May.

After winning their category heats earlier this term within RMS to be eligible as finalists in Wednesdays event, Seth, Emily, AJ, Colette and Sofia set off to compete against the best of the best from Gordon’s and Woking High School.

All of our students were backed up by a large and  supportive audience of parents as they took to the stage.

Our two Year 7 girls Colette (Voice) and Sofia (Marimba) produced outstanding performances in the tuned percussion and vocal categories where they played with confidence and style, competing  against much older Year 10 and Year 11 entrants. An impressive and sensitive piano performance came from AJ who played beautifully on the grand piano.

Emily (Oboe) won her class outright with a sparkling virtuoso woodwind performance along with Seth (Violin) who triumphed in the string category. Both committed  to their repertoire  brilliantly and engaged so well with their audience.

All performers impressed the adjudicator Ben so much that Robert May’s School were awarded the trophy for overall competition winners.

Such a positive evening… well done everyone!
