Inclusion Quality Mark
The Inclusion Quality Mark (IQM) for schools is a nationally and internationally recognised accreditation that celebrates and supports outstanding inclusive practices in educational settings. It provides schools with a framework to evaluate, measure, and improve how effectively they are meeting the needs of all pupils, regardless of their age, gender, ethnicity, attainment, or background.
Purpose
The primary goal of the IQM is to ensure that inclusion is embedded in every aspect of school life, from curriculum planning and behavior management to staff development and community engagement. It helps schools:
- Promote equal opportunities and diversity.
- Raise achievement for all learners, including those with special educational needs and disabilities (SEND).
- Provide external validation of a school's inclusive status through a rigorous assessment process.
- Build staff confidence and provide leadership support in managing diverse learning needs.
In December 2023, Robert May’s School was first assessed and awarded the Inclusive School Award: The Foundational Award Level. This recognises a commitment to creating an inclusive environment and provides a framework for continuous improvement. It is valid for three years.
In November 2025 we will have our third visit from IQM to ensure we are still an Inclusive School, after which (assuming we are awarded this for the 3rd time) we will be eligible to apply for the Centre of Excellence Award. This is available to schools that have met the initial award criteria and are ready for the next step. These schools have established, embedded inclusive practice and share their expertise with other settings.
