Prep (Homework) and Revision
Academic Standards & Independent Learning (Prep)
At Robert May's School, independent learning (Prep) is a non-negotiable component of our academic curriculum. Completing set work on time develops self-discipline, reinforces classroom learning, and prepares students for external assessments.
Prep Expectations & Monitoring
- Deadlines: Students are expected to complete and hand in all Prep by the set deadline.
- Tracking: Teachers record all instances of missing, incomplete, or late Prep on our central system.
- Accountability: Failing to meet Prep obligations is an academic issue and will be addressed directly.
Mandatory Prep Support Sessions
To maintain high academic standards, missing Prep will result in formal intervention.
If a student is recorded as missing three or more Prep assignments within a two-week period, they will be automatically assigned to a mandatory, one-hour Prep Support Session after school.
Key Information Regarding Prep Support
- Mandatory Attendance: Attendance is compulsory. Other after-school commitments must be rescheduled to accommodate this priority session.
- Structure & Supervision: Sessions are held in silence and supervised by members of the Senior Leadership Team.
- Purpose: Students will complete all outstanding Prep and address the deficit in their learning before they are dismissed.
- Parental Notification: Parents and carers will receive formal notification of the required session in advance.
Repeated difficulty with submitting Prep directly affects academic progress. We expect full cooperation from both students and parents in ensuring these standards are upheld to help every student succeed.
Prep: At a Glance
| Staff | It is the responsibility of the teacher to set and check students' prep on ClassCharts. Award 'Prep Submitted' or 'Prep Not Submitted' ClassCharts achievement points for every student. Have conversations with individual students. |
| Students | It is the Students responsibility to complete prep on time and to the best of their ability. |
| Parents/Carers | We ask Parents/Carers to support the prep that is set and help the student submit it on time. |
| Tutors | Tutors will receive a ClassCharts notification if a student has missed 3 x prep in a week; and should have a conversation with that student from a pastoral perspective and follow up as appropriate. |
| Head of Department | The Head of Department will monitor the department's prep and check departmental prep is set and submitted. |
| Head of Year | The Head of Year will award a 'prep award' for the most prep points in an assembly every Half Term. |
| Senior Leadership Team | The SLT will run a fortnightly prep support sessions for students who are consistently not completing prep. |

Year 10/11 Revision
Year 11 Revision Sessions
From the Spring term of Year 11 departments offer some or all of the following revision session options:

Bookable revision sessions (taught 30 minute revision lessons with pre published topics). These will be for groups of 10 students only. More information about these will be out shortly.

Drop in revision sessions where students can complete prep or ask specific questions about topics areas they have studied in class. These will take place after Christmas until the exams.

Breakfast revision sessions. These will be short 10 minute revision sessions which include taught material or quizzes. These will take place after Christmas until the exams.
