This week saw the World finals of the F1 in Schools STEM Challenge

Team Nightingale from Robert May's started their journey back when they were Year 9 students (previously known under the names ‘Vision’ and ‘Imperium’). During this time, the team has progressed through Regional and National stages to reach the World Finals in Singapore (a full year after leaving Robert May’s School and going on to their respective post-16 pathways).

33,000 teams started from 52 countries in the F1 in Schools challenge. At the finals there were 68 teams, all National Champions.

RMS Team Nightingale ended up reaching the final of the knockout tournament, narrowly missing out to Team Innovation of Australia.

Then came the awards ceremony, where they won the Autodesk Pressure Challenge award and were also nominated for the prestigious verbal presentation prize, gaining second place in that discipline. Finally as the top 3 overall teams were announced, they earned a place on the winners podium with 3rd place!

Phil Cain (Head of Design Technology & Engineering) said “Our team have worked so hard and have not put a foot wrong all week - I am immensely proud of them”.

A celebratory Instagram post by the team said “We cannot believe this, we are so happy and proud. We want to take this opportunity to thank our sponsors: Autodesk, Stanhope-Seta, Oxts, Lazar Scientific and ASTM, and also the rest of our sponsors that have supported us. We also want to thank Robert May’s School for the support over the years and our lead teacher Phil Cain, one of the best teachers in the world! Thank you to F1 in Schools for all the opportunities this has provided us with and all the skills we have learnt along the way!”

The team will be busy in the next few days with visits to F1 teams garages, a meet with the High Commissioner, etc. and then to the Grand Prix itself.

Congratulations, Amber, Alistair, Harriet and Charlotte - Team Nightingale!
