Years 8 and 9 STEM/Computing Rotary Tournament at BCOT
Groups of Year 8 and 9 Computer Science students took part in this year's Rotary organised STEM/Computing competition.
More than 5 schools competed in a full main hall at BCOT. Students were given a project to complete in 4 hours, aiming to make a vehicle from the tools and equipment provided. This car/vehicle would then need to propel as far as it could! The leaders were very impressed by the RMS students' enthusiasm, our students were keeping the Rotary judges very busy with their questions about the mechanics of their vehicle! I am pleased they could connect their current 'Computational Thinking' computer science lesson learning, such as abstraction, algorithmic thinking and decomposition to this project. Helping them with their project portfolio and winning this category! Well done - best portfolio for our category on the day! I am proud of their conscious use of computational thinking, and being able to communicate this to the judges with a beautiful as well as technical portfolio. Finally their team spirit, dedication and love for Computer Science made them all winners from the start! Thank you Year 8 and 9s Computer Science students.
