Name the New Building competition
All members of our school community are invited to take this opportunity of proposing names for the new building which will be situated at the front of the school. This is a chance to shape the future in a lasting way, so we are looking for serious ideas that draw upon the history of the school, the locality, the importance of learning, the school’s founders, local people who could/should be commemorated and/or any other items of local and lasting interest.
You will be aware, if you have seen the planning documents online, that the ground floor of the building will be our new reception and library. The first floor will hold four standard classrooms and one enlarged “dry-lab” for scientific, technical, digital, engineering and practical learning.
The opportunity to propose names will run from 27th April until noon on 30th June 2017.
A panel of representatives from the school and local community will meet to discuss all the names that have been put forward. They will select the three that they think best represent Robert May’s school ethos and heritage. These three shortlisted names will be shared online in a public forum and there will be a chance for everyone to vote for what they consider to be the most suitable name for the new building. We are aiming to get away from just “the new block” ! Voting should take place throughout June 2017, with aim of the panel being able to give the new building a name by the time the foundations are laid. The winning name will be published before the end of the summer term 2017, and the proposer of the winning name will be invited to come to the school. It is planned that the winner’s name will become part of a permanent installment in the library.
